What ROAS does your Shopify store need on this product?
Selling price, product cost, ad cost, and how often people buy. You get the return the product needs before it makes money — and the profit on each sale once it does.
- Break-even ROASThe return where the product stops losing money
- Estimated cost per purchaseFrom CPM, CTR, and conversion rate
- Profit and margin per saleAfter product cost, fees, and ads
Why Shopify merchants check break-even ROAS first
The fastest way to lose money on a product is to find out the break-even ROAS after the ads are running. The Shopify profit calculator gives you that number up front: enter the price, what the product costs you, the fixed fees per order, and your expected CPM, click-through rate, and conversion rate. You get the cost per purchase, the ROAS you need, and what each sale keeps.
Found the product on the winning products board or in a competitor’s ads from the winning ads spy? Put their price in here with your own costs before you copy the offer. If you only know the money left on the order, the simpler ROAS calculator gets you there faster.
The Shopify profit calculator answers the question you should ask before the first ad: what ROAS does this product need, and what does one sale keep? Price, product cost, fees, CPM, click-through rate, and conversion rate turn into an estimated cost per purchase, a break-even ROAS, and the profit left on the order. That is the line you scale above and pause below.
Pull the product from the winning products list or from a competitor’s catalog via the product exporter, then put your costs in — not theirs. If you already know the margin on the order and only need the return ads must hit, the shorter ROAS calculator is enough.
How to use the profit calculator
- Enter the selling price and product cost.
- Put the shipping you pay and the payment fee in fixed fees per order.
- Enter CPM, click-through rate and conversion rate. Use your own data where you have it.
- Read cost per purchase, break-even ROAS, profit per sale and net margin.

Profit and ROAS questions Shopify merchants ask
What a good ROAS is, where the inputs come from, and how to read the result.
What is a good ROAS for a Shopify product?
Whatever sits above your break-even number. A high-margin product can be profitable at 2x. A thin dropshipping product may need 3x or 4x before the ads pay for the product. The calculator shows your own line.
Where do I get CPM, CTR, and conversion rate?
CPM and CTR are in Meta or TikTok Ads Manager for your account. Conversion rate is in Shopify analytics. If you are starting out, 1.5% CTR and 2–3% conversion are common planning numbers — replace them with yours as soon as you have data.
What counts as fixed fees per order?
Payment processing, packaging, a fulfilment fee, and any per-order app charge. Shipping goes here too if you pay it and don’t charge the customer.
The break-even ROAS is above what I get. What now?
Raise the price, bundle to lift the order value, cut product cost, or fix the product page so conversion rate goes up. Run the Shopify CRO Audit on your page to see what is holding conversion back.
Is this the same as the ROAS calculator?
This one estimates ad cost from CPM, CTR, and conversion rate. The ROAS calculator starts from the money left on the order and skips the ad estimate.
How do I find break-even ROAS for a Shopify product?
Enter the selling price, what you pay for the product, and the fees you absorb per order, plus the CPM, CTR, and conversion rate you expect. Break-even ROAS is the return where profit on the sale hits zero.
What conversion rate should I use for a new Shopify product?
Use your store’s real rate if you have one. For a first plan, many merchants test around 2–3% and replace it as soon as the product has orders. A lower rate raises the cost per purchase and the ROAS you need.
Why does a small change in CTR move Shopify profit so much?
CTR changes how many clicks you buy at a given CPM, which changes cost per purchase. A weak hook makes a fine margin unprofitable. Check competitor hooks in the winning ads spy before you assume your CTR.
Should I use this before or after the Shopify ROAS calculator?
Before, when you are modelling a product from price and traffic assumptions. After you know the money left on an order, the ROAS calculator is the faster check.
Are the profit numbers saved?
No. The calculator stays on this page. Change a field and the break-even ROAS updates. Nothing is sent to Checkout Club101.
What conversion rate do I need for this product to make money?
Divide your cost per click by the money one order leaves before ads. At a $1.00 click and $26.98 left per order you need about 3.7% of clicks to buy. If your real rate is lower, change the price, the bundle or the click cost first.
